Speaking in a language your client understands is important because you want to be able to take what it is you have to share and build a place where your clients will feel comfortable and at home. You want to create an environment where they feel safe and where they can find a community of like-minded people with a central commonality.
This should be a place that they look forward to sharing their challenges and dreams and having a sense of community. You have the ability to create this safe place for your clients but only if your words speak directly to them. You have to use your client’s language.
Speaking in your client’s language means:
- Knowing how your client talks about her challenges
- Understanding what matters most to your client
- Knowing what keeps her awake at night
- Understanding what the language she will use to describe all of these things
Speaking in your client’s language is essential when it comes to marketing yourself as a Wellness Coach or other holistic expert. It helps to draw your ideal client into what you are sharing which makes all the difference.
“It helps to draw your ideal client into what you are sharing which makes all the difference.”
For example, the way a corporate executive female describes her weight problem is very different than how a recent college graduate describes hers. Two different voices, two different reasons for wanting to lose weight, two completely different situations.
Another example is the way a working mom might describe her challenges. Her description is going to be very different than a stay-at-home mom. Each has different ways of not only describing their challenges, but their goals are different and their voices are different. In fact, their lives are different.
If you don’t go deep enough and have a clear idea of your ideal client and her language, your potential clients won’t feel that your program is exactly right for them. They will feel like there’s something missing. They won’t feel that there is anything about your program that really sparks their interest or says to them, “This is perfect for me.”
You want your ideal clients to find you and say, “This is for me! I have finally found a home!” Once you learn to speak your client’s language, you’ll be able to create a community of like-minded people who are glad to work with you!
